The upcoming new Laura Gardin Fraser design will appear on the south side of the United States quarter in 2022. Fraser’s neoclassical work was a favorite for the obverse of the 1932 Washington quarter dollar. As part of the American Women Quarters Program, the United States Mint will honor 20 women with special designs for the reverse side of the quarters through 2025. The ANA will provide free educational programs and hobby-related games. And there’s even a prize program for fans of the new design.

In addition to the first set of coins, the US Mint will issue different reverse designs for each year from 2022 through 2025. In addition to featuring women, the reverse side of the new coins will include a portrait of George Washington, composed by Laura Gardin Fraser. This portrait was originally commissioned for Washington’s 200th birthday. The new coins will honor the achievements of women around the world, as well as those who helped the country achieve its goals.

The new design depicts American astronaut Sally Ride as a young woman standing in front of a bird and the sunrise, as well as the first female principal chief of the Cherokee Nation.
